The Secret Life of My Pink Transferware (and Other Vintage Shenanigans)
We all have that thing we’ve bought, loved, admired…and then promptly stuffed in a closet, never to be seen again. For me, it’s a box of pink transferware dishes.
Every year, like clockwork, I take them out for Valentine’s Day and Christmas. I dust them off, admire their charming little patterns, think, “This is the year I’ll actually use them,” and then—spoiler alert—I don’t. Not even once.
Why? I honestly have no idea. I love them! They’re adorable, they scream vintage charm, and yet somehow, they never make it to an actual table with actual food on them. Maybe it’s because I’m waiting for the Queen to stop by for tea? Unclear.
But here’s the kicker: not only do I not use them, I’m STILL collecting them. Yep, every time I walk into a thrift store, antique shop, or consignment sale, my wallet leaps out of my bag like it has a mind of its own. Before I know it, another pink plate is crammed into my ever-growing “box of dishes destined for neglect.”
And if we’re being totally honest here (which apparently we are), pink transferware isn’t my only “secret stash.” Oh no, my friends. I also have a slight—okay, moderate—okay, fine, major obsession with vintage kitchen utensils. Sure, there’s a cute little display in my kitchen, but the real party? It’s happening in random cabinets, the garage, and even some holiday boxes. Because nothing says “festive” like unearthing a vintage egg beater next to your Christmas ornaments.
But I’ve had a revelation: it’s time to let go. I’ve loved the thrill of the hunt, but if these treasures are just sitting around gathering dust (literally), it’s time to pass them along to someone who’ll actually use or display them.
So here’s the deal—I’m selling a few pieces. But if you decide to adopt one of my beloved vintage goodies, do me a favor: send me a picture of it in its new home. I’d love to see it living its best life, out in the wild, being fabulous instead of hiding in a box.
Because deep down, I know they deserve better than being seasonal decor with commitment issues.
