Rethinking the Hunt: Finding Joy all Year Long

For years, I’ve loved hunting for Pyrex, barware, and other kitchen collectibles. My passion for Pyrex is unmatched—I get goosebumps every time I find something special. But like many of you, I’m constantly inspired by other people’s collections. One amazing woman on TikTok, TheVettelFarm, has me absolutely swooning over her decor. (Cue Gone with the Wind music or anything equally dramatic.) Every collection, every idea, every holiday vignette she posts makes me want to emulate her style. Go check her out—she’s incredible!

She’s inspired me so much that I’ve set a 2025 goal: to find at least one new vintage item for each holiday to display. Now, not to toot my own horn, but I already have quite a few goodies I’m proud of. However, this year I want to shift my focus from expanding my “collections” to enhancing my decor and seasonal aesthetic. Less milk glass, more vintage St. Patrick’s Day, for example.

And wouldn’t you know it, as soon as I put this goal out into the universe, my first thrift trip rewarded me with a delightful find: a 1956 July boy birthday angel figurine in mint condition. I would have passed it by before, not seeing its potential for my Fourth of July display. In fact, I might have thought it would add to clutter rather than bring a charming vintage pop where you’d least expect it. But now, I love it. I love that my eyes are searching for new treasures and possibilities.

What inspires me most from other bloggers and vintage friends is how they highlight items I’d never have thought to include. For instance, antique books in red for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or the Fourth of July. It’s all about rethinking what fits where.

It’s not easy to think about July in January, but why not?

So, there it is—my #1 goal: rethink my hunt, refocus my eyes on new possibilities, and ultimately create fresh, exciting vintage displays in my home.
